Dedicated ESE machines focus on pods. Explore makers such as Faber, La Piccola or Spinel. Check each model’s dimensions, controls, water tank and milk options. These are examples, not test winners.
Already have a manual espresso machine?
Some models support ESE with a special basket or adapter. Others do not. Check the exact model number in the manual or with the manufacturer. An ordinary portafilter alone does not prove compatibility.
Think beyond your first cup
Are the holder and drip tray easy to clean? Are parts and servicing available? Do you prefer automatic dosing or stopping the shot yourself? For cappuccino, is there a steam function or will you use a separate milk frother?
A little maintenance still matters
There is no grinder to clean, but there is still a machine. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and descaling instructions. Frequency depends partly on usage and water.
